Rental Customer in Alaska Saves Time and Money with an Iridium

"Six of us traveled to a small island near Cordova Alaska last week to construct a wilderness cabin lodge for an upcoming media camp. We were a two hour boat ride from the nearest settlement and phone, and none of our cell phones worked in this remote part of Alaska. Upon our arrival the bomb was dropped that the land owner had lost the plans for the cabin kit, leaving us with nothing but a pile of lumber and a ton of bewilderment to work through. After having traveled three thousand miles and having taken a precious week vacation off, we weren't about to give up and walk away. However, we did have the phone number of the cabin kit manufacturer, and most importantly, we had an Iridium satellite phone provided by Outfitter Satellite.

With a few easily made phone calls, we were provided with enough information to properly build the lodge, thus accomplishing the ambitious goal of constructing the lodge in one week time. Without the satellite phone we would have had absolutely no chance to salvage the time and money spent on being on site. And being so remote, we had the assurance that if any accident occurred on the site, a quick call would provide rapid emergency assistance. What a technological miracle that phone is….providing a lightweight, easy to use, relatively inexpensive contact with the outside world from an area as wild and remote as one can find in North America. I strongly urge all serious outdoors people to include a satellite phone in their "must have" equipment list, if not for the convenience, then certainly for the safety aspects of having the availability of calling for help should an emergency arise in any remote area."
